Riding the momentum of one of the most successful seasons in program history a season ago, the Saint Mary's soccer team is poised and ready to contend in the MIAA in 2013. The Belles posted school records with 13 wins and 10 shutouts last fall while matching the program record of 10 conference victories.
Much of the core of the successful 2012 squad returns to the pitch in 2013 for the Belles. More than a dozen players who appeared in at least 15 contests last fall are vying for playing time this fall for the Belles. Among those returners are Mollie Valencia '14, Kerry Green '14, Mary Kate Hussey '15, and Chanler Rosenbaum '15. All four were both MIAA Players of the Week and All-MIAA honorees last fall.
Green, Hussey, and Rosenbaum keyed a Saint Mary's defense that continually stymied the competition’s offensive efforts. For only the second time in a season with at least 14 games, the 2012 Belles' defense did not allow an opponent to score more than two goals in any single contest. Green, Hussey, and the Belles' back line limited the opposition to 74 fewer shots than Saint Mary's took in 2012. Rosenbaum finished the season ninth in save percentage and 25th in goals-against average among all NCAA Division III goalkeepers while playing more than 1500 minutes in goal a year ago.
