Head Coach
Michael Joyce
Michael Joyce returns to the sidelines for his third season at the helm of the Saint Mary's soccer program in 2012.
The Belles have had marked growth in Joyce's first two seasons with the program. In 2011, the team had their first 10 win season since 2005 while tallying more wins than the past three seasons combined.
Assistant Coaches
Tom Van Meter
Tom Van Meter has been a staple in the South Bend soccer community for nearly his entire life. He previously was the head coach of the Belles soccer program in the late 1980s and early 90s, leading the Belles to NAIA post-season berths. He has 25 years of coaching experience through head coaching positions at South Bend St. Joseph's High School, Penn High School, and Saint Mary's. Van Meter was inducted into the Saint Mary's College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Indiana State Soccer Association Hall of Fame in 2007.
Randy Rompola
Randy Rompola is serving in his fifth season as an assistant to the Saint Mary’s soccer program. He has coached youth travel soccer teams for the last 12 years with teams enjoying success in regional and state-wide leagues in Michigan and Indiana. He has had several former travel players continue their soccer careers in college with a few now coaching soccer themselves. Rompola has also served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Board of Michiana Echo Soccer, a local travel soccer club. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Indiana Soccer Foundation. Rompola has received the NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma and the US Soccer National Youth License. After serving in the Air Force as an intelligence officer, he moved to the area to attend Notre Dame Law School and is currently a partner with the law firm of Faegre Baker Daniels LLP.
Duane Ungethum
Duane Ungethum begins his second season assisting the Saint Mary’s soccer program in the fall of 2012. Since the spring of 2009, Ungethum has gained experience as a coach for the Junior Irish Soccer Club in South Bend. He helped guide the 1996 Girls Premier team to a TBay Classic title as well as a finals appearance in the 2010 Junior Irish Memorial Day Tournament. In addition to having assisted the club's 1998 Girls Green and 1993 Women's teams, he has been the goalkeeper academy coordinator and coach. A four-year member of the Marian University men's soccer program, Ungethum earned bachelor's degrees in accounting and finance in 2003. With an extensive background in accounting, he currently serves as the business development manager of the Midwest division for Peoplelink Staffing in South Bend.
